Popcorn Sales Conclude with a Splat
Pack-20 scouts were no slouches in the Popcorn Fundraiser department this year. In all, our scouts generated $2539 in sales! A significant portion of that amount will go directly to Pack 20 to support our many activities. And most of you were witness at the last Pack Meeting to a new popcorn sales incentive: Pie throwing! For each $75 dollars worth of popcorn sold by a scout, he could throw a pie at the scout leader of his choice. And those choices were spread evenly (and with messy gusto) across the leaders! _____________________________________________________________
Scouting-for-Food Drive Finishes Strong The November 8th Scouting for Food bag pick-up was both a fun and rewarding Saturday. Pack-20 scouts fanned out across the town of Hudson to collect the bags for this annual event. In total, Dens collected 262 bags! (With an average of 8 items per bag, work with your son to figure out how many items were collected by Pack 20!) Despite lower overall contributions to other charities as a result of the economic downturn, Scouting-for-Food donations were unusually strong. See this WMUR-TV story. Great job, boys!

Musquash Pond Hike and Cleanup October 19, 2008. Hudson – “Follow me, boys!” was the command from hike leader and organizer Rob Dubay (Den-10 co-leader) that kicked off the 2008 Musquash Pond Hike and Cleanup. The annual Pack-20 scout event gives the scouts an opportunity to get out into nature for a high-quality hike, while helping to keep our town clean, as they pick up trash along the way. Twenty-six scouts, along with their Akelas, participated this year. Good weather and fairly mild temperatures made for great hike. Scouts first snaked their way around the north side of the pond before reaching the one-mile stopping point. After rest and rehydration, many Tigers, Wolves and Bears headed back to the trailhead to complete their two-mile total journey. Webelos and a few hearty younger scouts began the steep 30-yard ascent that marked the beginning of the next half mile. In all, these boys covered three miles, all before dark. Good hikin’! Remember: The hike and the cleanup count toward many achievement requirements for all scout ranks, so check your books and talk to your Den leader.
Welcome New Scouts and Leaders September 28, 2008, Hudson - “This year’s Fall Recruitment Roundup was very successful,” according to Pack-20 Scout Master Bill Churm. Despite not holding a recruiting event in conjunction with Nottingham’s Curriculum Night, 20 new scouts and two new leaders will be joining Pack 20 this year. The primary recruiting event was held this year at the Memorial Middle School in Hudson on Wednesday evening, September 17, from 6-8pm. Strong interest in scouting at all levels brought out a large number of kids and their parents. An unusually large group of new Tiger Cubs will join the pack. Scout Master Churm notes that this is the first time in a long while that two (instead of one) new Dens had to be formed to accommodate all the new Tigers -- 16, in all. Leading the new Dens 1 and 2 will be Diane Jones and Lauraine Munson. We cannot thank these two enough for their volunteer work on behalf of the new scouts. From everyone at Pack 20, a hearty welcome to our new scouts and leaders! |

Matt S. is “Leader of the Pack” at 2009 PWD Finals March 28, 2009 – Matt S. held off a late-race surge by the eventual second place winner to capture an impressive overall win in the 2009 Pack-20 Pinewood Derby Finals. Thirty-nine total racers made the journey down the black track this year. Second and third place finals trophies were earned by Antonio S. and David M., respectively. These three scouts, along with fourth and fifth place winners Conner U. and Pete R., are qualified to represent Pack-20 at the district-level race held in Milford on April 18th. Congratulations to all scouts that participated in this year’s Pinewood Derby!! For full race results and lots of pictures, click the Pinewood Derby link at the Pack-20 website, Pack20Hudson.org. Special thanks to the Hudson Fish and Game Club for donating the space for our race and to all who helped set it up and break it down. It was an exciting and incredibly fun race day!! |

Cub Scout Crossover June 1, 2009 – Capping off an incredible scout season, Pack-20 scouts crossed over to their next scouting rank at a picture perfect evening at Robinson Pond. In what was certainly the best final pack meeting in Pack-20 memory, scouts and their families were treated to a roaring campfire, as well as skit after skit after skit provided by local Hudson Boy Scout troops. S’mores and drinks completed the evening. |

Scouting Activities Continued All Summer Pack-20 scouts stayed busy all summer long, with many different events that proved educational, challenging and…well…FUN! June brought a large number of scouts and parents to the bi-annual Battleship Cove overnight sleepover on the USS Massachussets, docked at Fall River, MA. The June fun continued at Camp Doucet, a four-day day camp in Nashua. August was also a busy month with two overnight events: the three-day Akela Camp at Camp Carpenter and the American Defenders overnight game and campout at Holman Stadium. It was great to see so many Pack-20 cub scouts participate in these events. We hope to see even more of you next summer! |

Busy Scouts are Happy Scouts October 17, 2009, Hudson -- Neither low temperatures nor the threat of rain could stop Pack-20 Scouts PJ, Cody, Joe, Tyler, Kyle and Antonio from working on the "Old Woman's Shoe" and surrounding brush at Benson's Park. Headed up by construction-company owner and Den-6 leader Pete Ripaldi, the scouts gutted the old shoe, cleaning it out and working their hammers and crowbars on the rotted wood. With help from Susan, a Benson's volunteer, a half dozen moms and dads from the pack raked and hauled away leaves and branches. To the boys’ delight, Mrs. Ripaldi arrived with hot coca and donuts. A reporter from the Telegraph even came by to take pictures for an article that made the front page of the paper. After almost three hours of hard work, it was quitting time. As everyone stood back to admire how much our scouts had accomplished, it became clearer to the parents how Bensons used to look. Sure there is still a lot of work to be done, but it is so rewarding to the scouts to know that they have taken part. AWESOME job, scouts! |

The fundraiser, held to raise money for the Blue and Gold Banquet, was attended by large number of scouts and their families and friends. The event brought in over $500 that will help fund the banquet. Special recognition goes out to Tyler G. of Den 11 for selling more tickets than any other scout!
